What would you give to be to fit everything you need for a day of photography and video shooting in a single small bag? A pair of new Sony lenses, the Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 G and Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G, just might make that dream a reality for a lot of creators. This compact and lightweight zoom lens dream team covers a broad and especially useful range for many on-the-go photographers, filmmakers and vloggers, and when paired with compact cameras like the Sony Alpha 7CR, the full system packs a professional, yet portable, punch. In this video, pro photographer and YouTuber creator Miguel Quiles takes a closer look at the Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 G and Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G lenses and how he puts them to use.

When out making content, creators often need a wide variety of focal lengths to cover everything they need to capture. “When it comes to photography, I’m typically shooting things at 24, 35 and 50mm,” explains Quiles. “Every so often I want something wider, to maybe capture a big scene, or whenever I’m wanting to vlog and show the environment that I find myself in. That could easily become four different lenses that I’d need to carry, maybe more depending on where I’m going, and chances are I’d end up needing to bring a large bag with me to carry everything. “

But with the Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 G and Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G lenses, that doesn’t have to be the case. When Quiles combines these with his Sony Alpha 7CR, he has a compact and portable setup that still covers the range he needs it to. He has the camera, which he says captures amazing, high-resolution images and has amazing autofocus capabilities, kitted with accessories including a thumb grip, and an Arca-Swiss extension grip that hides an Air Tag for tracking. This combined with the two lenses gives him everything he needs for a day of capturing.

Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 G

The Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 G is packed with features but only weighs 409 grams, so Quiles says carrying it around for an entire day is a non-issue. The f/2.8 aperture allows him to use the lens in low light situations, and shooting ultra-wide at 16mm lets him capture sharp, bright and colorful scenes in frame.

“Whenever I get around to vlogging about my day or experience, this is the lens that makes its way onto my Alpha 7CR and thanks to the linear motors inside, it's able to keep up with the advanced autofocus features that this camera provides. It's a worry-free combo for me that lets me focus on capturing images and video without getting bogged down in the technical process of creating." 

Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G

The Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G is very similar in size and weight to the other lens and has all of the same functionality, including a declickable aperture ring and a customizable focus hold button. “Inside there are linear motors that can keep up with every action the world can throw at me,” explains Quiles, “and it even keeps up with the high frames per second shooting of my pro camera bodies like the Alpha 9 III.”

A Dream Team Lens Combo

Because the two lenses have such a similar center of balance, Quiles says he often doesn’t need to rebalance his gimbal when switching in between the two. “Being able to hotswap lenses like that while I’m out filming is a big timesaver for me.” The two lenses are also 67mm in diameter, so you can use the same set of filters across both lenses and save even more room in your bag.
