Catia Dombaxe’s story on her Alpha Universe profile reads, “I am Catia Dombaxe. I am Angolan and currently living in the U.S. studying chemistry and forensic sciences. I am a part-time traveler and a travel photographer. I have visited 52 countries and I use my social media platform to inspire people, mostly women and minorities, to travel without breaking the bank. In the past seven years, I have lived in three different countries and I have learned to adapt to any situation. In fact, traveling is the reason why I am such a flexible and happy woman.”

Career Snapshot
I do not consider myself a professional photographer. I am more of a photophilic and I use photography as a medium to share my adventures and the beautiful countries I visit, inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and connect with other like individuals. My love for photography started when I was 15 years old. In those early years, I was part of a group of Angolan photographers, called Amigos da Fotografia. While in that group, I met amazing people who not only became my inspiration but also became my lifelong friends. While I was living in Luanda, I took some photographs, however, I truly started taking more photos when I moved to the Netherlands and joined the photography club at my college. Since then, I have been using photography as a way to communicate and show my portrayal of the world.

Why I Made The Switch To Sony
When I entered the photography world, I used to have a Canon. However, when I moved to the U.S., I decided to change to Sony products mainly because they were lightweight and the concept of mirrorless cameras just amazed me. I chose Sony because it was the best fit for my travels and the price of the cameras and lenses is within my budget. Additionally, right now I am studying ways to incorporate my Sony into forensic photography.

My Go-To Sony Gear
Right now, I use the Sony α6000. She is my baby and I do not plan to leave her anytime soon. I know they are newer cameras, but I love the flexibility of my α6000. I also love this camera body because it is my experimental camera. I have been self-teaching myself and I am confident that this is the best camera body for me right now. My favorite lenses are the Sony 50mm f/1.8 and the Sony 18-135mm f/ 3.5-5.6. I used the 50mm mainly for portrait photography and the 18-135mm for travel photography. These are great for me, and I plan on expanding my lens collection more in the future.

What Photography & The Sony Community Mean To Me
My photography is my art. The light and energy I can emit to people. Through my photographs, I portray all the happiness, agony, joy, excitement, and wonder of many different people, different cultures, and different realities. To inspire and to make you feel the way I felt when I met these people and when I visited these exquisite places. With my art, I truly want to entice people to look beyond visuals. I want people to feel it. Additionally, I urge people to explore, get out there, meet people with different backgrounds, learn something with them, and something about yourself along the way.

It means a lot to be a part of the Sony community. I get to showcase my work, but most importantly I have found some of the most talented photographers in the world. This is a great community and great for the connection with other artists.
