“I like the light, small, compact nature of this lens for walking around all day. I can see this lens being an affordable event photography lens as well. Maybe you don’t have the budget for the 24-70 G Master II – this could do a very similar role. It would give you kind of that same versatile range. You do get that nice f/2.8 aperture and it’s good at f/2.8. And then if I coupled this with something like a 70-200mm f/4 for example, I would still have a nice range covered but I wouldn’t be breaking the bank.” – Chris Niccolls

“I think combined with Sony’s secret weapon, the Alpha 7C II or Alpha 7CR, without breaking the bank that much I think this can be a solution that’s really good for a lot of stuff.” – Faruk Korkmaz
“I’m very impressed, I think I’m getting one immediately. This is going back to Sony and I’ll be buying one as soon as I can.” – Faruk Korkmaz

“It’s half the price of the 24-70mm G Master II. So you’re getting a smaller lens that weighs less. Doesn’t zoom as far, but costs significantly less. It’s good quality. It’s a G lens, and honestly it’s very similar to a lot of the other Sony lenses we reviewed recently in terms of their benefits and also their shortcomings. I like it for the price and maybe it is a handy lens for this focal range that people can take advantage of. And it balances quite nicely on the new compact cameras like the Alpha 7C II and Alpha 7CR.” – Gerald Undone

"Photography features, as the kids would say it, 'This clears.' The 24-50 actually has great image quality, has great color - which you would expect from Sony G and G Master lenses. Now keeping in consideration all of the other things we've been talking about with the lens for video, the same is going to be true photography. It's still going to have great autofocus. You're still going to have a fast lens. And that f/2.8, for the majority of things you're going to be shooting, in terms of a zoom lens, this does cover the range in which a lot of people look for and need. If it's something where you only have one lens and only have one option, this actually might be a great starting point, especially considering its price." – Kofi Yeboah

“This has been a really nice lens to use. It’s quick, responsive, and pairing it with the Sony Alpha 7C II actually makes for a really nice compact system to be carrying about all day. I also love the versatility that constant f/2.8 aperture provides, not only from a creative standpoint but also when you’re faced with challenging lighting conditions or just poor lighting in general.” – Lizzie, Jessops
“If size and weight of your kit is important to you, then definitely check this lens out. And I did also want to mention, I know I said earlier that there were some features on this which make it great for video. Well, if you’re a hybrid shooter or you’re somebody who maybe predominantly shoots more video than they do stills, this is still a great choice.” – Lizzie, Jessops
Erwin Marionneaux
“This is my honest opinion on how I see it. The 28-75 and the 24-70 that Sigma has, they are pretty close in place that I would just save the money to buy this lens because it’s pretty much better in every way. This lens is sharper. It has better autofocus. It’s smaller. It’s lighter. It just makes more sense for me to have to spend the extra couple of hundred dollars in price difference. I have a customizable button. I have a physical aperture ring. I can use the focus breathing compensation in my camera. I just think it’s a better deal overall when it comes down to the price difference between those.” – Erwin Marionneaux

“Overall the quality we were able to get from the lens was superb. Sony’s new FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G has surprisingly great image quality and autofocus performance in a surprisingly compact lens. The images are uniformly sharp at any point in the zoom range and the autofocus is precise, fast and quiet, even with relatively fast moving subjects and frame rates. The lens is suitable for video recording and is lightweight enough to use it on lighter gimbals with a smaller camera as well. It’s an inspiring, versatile lens for travel photographers and content creators. Wide enough for natural angle views but with just enough zoom range for snapshots and even some portraiture.” – Doug Guerra
Jason Morris
“Now who is this designed for? Look, it’s pretty much designed for people who want to do some videography, who want to do some gimbal work because it is light, it is small. Anyone who wants to do travel videos, and obviously for people who don’t have the large amount of money to spend on a G Master lens but want very similar quality and obviously want a Sony-branded lens. And the 24-50mm is a fairly decent range, you’ve got your wide end at 24, you’ve got your sort of mid portrait range at 50mm. And like I said, if you pair this with a fast prime like an 85mm f/1.4 or f/1.8, you’re going to get pretty much a massive range out of this and get so much use because of the price of this.” – Jason Morris
Dylan Blackburn
“Now I’m considering going back to my old ways and just carrying my 35mm f/1.8 and the 24-50mm f/2.8 because this lens could easily replace my 24 and my 50mm lens. Not to say I would never use those lenses again, but it just makes a lot more sense to carry something like this, especially if I’m traveling. So in a way, it kind of feels like this lens was meant for me.” – Dylan Blackburn

“24, 35 and 50 are the most-used focal lengths in the market. And if you’re like me, always travel with the 70-200mm, maybe not using the 24-70mm with its full range. So this lens will save space and money in your kit. I tested both photos and video in the Union Square area in New York with the help of Cadence. It’s very cold in New York, and we couldn’t stay too long outside and that’s when a compact, reliable and fast lens like this comes clutch. The autofocus is precise, fast and quiet and the tracking worked perfectly. It’s great for video users, especially if you’re using a gimbal like I did. And that’s where I think Sony did a great job, because you’re not sacrificing in the quality that you get.” – Sal D’Alia

“Overall the size and the weight of the 24-50mm make it ideal as an everyday carry lens, especially when paired with the Sony Alpha 7CR or the Sony Alpha 7C II. Both are full-frame compact cameras and this camera/lens combo fits perfectly in my new everyday carry camera shoulder bag.” – Suzi Pratt
“Overall I had a great time testing out the 24-50mm lens. I think that it’s great for casual and professional photographers and videographers alike.“ – Suzi Pratt
Taylor Jackson
“In all seriousness, it’s a very nice to have. It’s a very useful focal range and I don’t really feel myself needing more than 50mm most of the time, especially out here. And I would actually prefer the physical size to be smaller like this rather than a 24-70mm.” – Taylor Jackson
