Keeping your sensor clean is key to pristine images, and can save hours of post-processing time. Sony Artisan Don Smith spends much of his time in dusty, outdoor environments and has nailed an easy, four-step process to keeping any mirrorless sensor clean. If you shoot with an interchangeable lens camera like the α7R II and α6300 Smith's process is incredibly useful. He writes:
"I am now so entrenched in the mirrorless revolution that I could never go back to mirrored DSLR’s cameras for my landscape photography.
Yet, because of the design of these newer cameras, the sensor is much closer to the opening of the lens flange. This presents more of an opportunity for dust particles to get onto the protective glass that guards your sensor. Let’s make that very clear – you can never actually touch your sensor. There is always a protective glass covering over any camera’s sensor.
So unless you are using a compact camera or a bridge camera with a permanently attached lens like the Sony RX10 III, you will need to clean your sensor."
