10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Brandon Li, the Nomad Filmmaker will speak on how to improvise as a filmmaker.
Learn to improvise as a filmmaker, using your instinct to guide your techniques for short films, narrative, and commercials. Brandon creates most of his films with no script or storyboards. He will show you how to use uncertainty to your advantage.
Plan your shoot to accommodate the un-planned; bring the right gear for run-and-gun; create beautiful shots out of (almost) any lighting; capture candid footage of strangers; direct actors so they live the moment; edit your footage using exciting transitions and techniques; learn about the most important part of editing: pacing. Brandon will also offer a few words on how he gains exposure for his work, turning his dream of travel filmmaking into reality.
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sony Artisans Ira Block, Ben Lowy and Michael Rubenstein will join Rick Smolan for a panel discussion on photojournalism.
In the panel discussion, New York Times best-selling author and co-creator of the “Day in the Life” series, Rick Smolan will moderate and ask Ira Block, Ben Lowy and Michael Rubenstein to discuss their careers in photojournalism and how photojournalists can use their skills to move into more commercial photography.
4:00 PM to 7:30 PM Alpha Collective PhotoWalk hosted by Jose Silva and Dave Krugman
Join Alpha Imaging Collective members and Instagram influencers, Jose Silva and Dave Krugman on a fun PhotoWalk around New York City. Along the PhotoWalk, you’ll have an opportunity to learn tips on how to use Instagram to promote your photography and brand. After the photo walk, return to B&H Event Space for beers, wine and light fare. Hang out and make some uploads to Instagram in the company of your fellow Photogs and Instagramers.
