"This image was taken in California in the early morning hours as I prepared for a three-day cross-country train ride back home to Pennsylvania,” she says. “I have a lifelong affinity for trains. This was my longest solo train trip and I wanted a photograph to commemorate it. I propped my Sony Alpha 7R III on the bench across from me, wiggled a rock under the lens to get the right angle, set the focus, and set a 10 second timer. The original photo was taken in color, but the black and white edit seemed to set the perfect mood and helped mute the bright pink suitcase sitting next to me that would have otherwise been a distraction."
