Italy-based fine art landscape photographer Lorenzo Bensi took this image he says shows resilience with his Sony Alpha 7R III and Sony 24-105mm f/4 G.
Bensi took this image during a snowstorm in December 2021. “The image shows an orchard located on the hills of the province of Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna, Italy,” he explains. “This particular shot was taken using the Sony Alpha 7R III with the Sony 24-105 f/4 G. I chose this equipment as it allows me to move easily in the field and with the stabilization on the camera and lens I can easily work freehand without losing any detail.”
He continues, “That day I was driving my truck to move from one shooting location to another, and along the way I saw this orchard completely covered with snow. I was driving very slowly because a snowstorm was in progress so I managed to stop next to the road. I took my equipment and got out of the car. I was immediately struck by the color contrast between the fruit trees and the white snow, so I took several freehand shots from different angles.”
The shot stood out to Bensi for several reasons, and he thinks we can find an important message by looking at the resilience of the plants. “I like this shot and I think it can be visually interesting for the color contrasts and because it shows the resilience and strength of the plants. Although young and small in size, they manage to withstand the harsh winter climate and then bear fruit in spring. This makes me think that we have a planet that is as strong as these young plants and we must do everything possible to preserve it from destruction.”
