Photo Of The Day: How A Volunteer Firefighter Captured A Moment Of Visual Dichotomy

Hobbyist photographer and volunteer firefighter Sebastian Delsol (@delsoldrone) snapped this image of two fellow firefighters with his Sony Alpha 7 IV and Sony 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. We connected with him to learn more about the image and below he briefly explains the story behind our photo of the day.

Hobbyist photographer and volunteer firefighter Sebastian Delsol explains the story behind this image, one of the first he captured with his new Sony Alpha 7 IV.

“I am a volunteer firefighter in Argentina and in the drone brigade,” he explains. “At the time of this photo, two of my colleagues were resting after containing a forest fire. The sun fell and the sky asked for a photo. Luckily I had my Sony Alpha 7 IV and this image came out, a true work of art.”

Delsol's striking photo was one of the first ones he ever took with the camera. He says after using it once, it was love. “I used my brand new Sony Alpha 7 IV with its 28-70mm kit lens to capture this. That same morning I had received the package and so it was one of the first photos I took with the camera and it was love at first sight. My goal for the shot was to try to capture the beauty of nature in a tragic setting, the magical sunset dyed with the smoke of the fires.”

He did a minor edit in Lightroom with the image, just saturating the colors a bit to make the sky stand out. “I couldn’t believe how beautiful it looked,” he says.
