Popular YouTuber Manny Ortiz recently conducted in a “portrait battle” with photographer friend Emmanuel Luciano. Ortiz, equipped with the Sony α7R II, and Luciano with the Canon 5D Mark IV, hit the streets to capture model portraits.
Ortiz’s goal was not to find out which produces the best image quality, but rather which one provides the better overall experience when shooting portraiture. During his shoot, his noted the key Sony features that have really simplified his life as a photographer.
“These three features are the electronic viewfinder, the eye auto focus and the image stabilization. In my experience these features just make the entire process so much easier.”
He goes on to discuss each feature in detail. When it comes to the in-body image stabilization of the α7R II, both photographers were blown away. Both agreed that it was almost not fair how much of an advantage it gives to producing a cleaner image. Ortiz even mentions that at the conclusion of the testing, his friend Luciano went out to purchase the α7R II.
“That just goes to show you that these features are not gimmicks at all. If you use them, they can make your life so much easier. It would allow you to focus more on composition, on the person and giving the model direction. Capturing that perfect emotion and expression from your model and worry less about changing focus points and getting the right exposure.”
