What’s In My Bag: A Minimal & Powerful Setup For Cinematic Travel Photo & Video

Amaury (@amryraw) is a travel photographer and videographer on a journey of capturing the world cinematically. “My work involves exploring new cities, getting lost in the streets and finding beauty in unexpected places,” he explains. “To document these moments, I need a setup that is both minimal and powerful, allowing me to move freely without drawing attention. My gear is centered around the Sony Alpha 7C II, supported by two very compact prime lenses and essential accessories that ensure I’m always ready to shoot.” We caught up with him to learn more about his simple kit for on-the-go cinematic photo and video creation.

Camera

Sony Alpha 7C II: The Sony Alpha 7C II is the heart of my setup. This camera’s compact size and full-frame sensor make it the perfect companion for travel. Whether I’m navigating crowded streets or capturing landscapes at dawn, the Sony Alpha 7C II delivers stunning image quality with its 33MP sensor and excellent low-light performance. The camera's 5-axis in-body stabilization is a game-changer for handheld shooting, especially for video, where it ensures smooth, cinematic footage.

Lenses

Sony 40mm f/2.5 G: The Sony 40mm f/2.5 G lens is my go-to for street photography. Its natural perspective closely mimics what the human eye sees, making it perfect for candid shots and everyday scenes. The compact design complements the Sony Alpha 7C II, maintaining a low-profile setup that’s ideal for exploring new places without drawing too much attention. The sharpness of this lens, whether it is for filming or taking a fast picture is perfect.

Sony 24mm f/2.8 G: When I need a wider field of view, especially for landscapes or immersive travel videos, I turn to the Sony 24mm f/2.8 G. Its wide-angle perspective is ideal for capturing the vastness of a scene without distortion. The lens’s compact size and lightweight build make it easy to carry around, ensuring I’m always ready to shoot whether I’m filming a bustling market or a quiet sunrise.

K&F Concept Variable ND Filter (ND2-ND400): This filter is essential for controlling exposure during video shoots, allowing me to achieve a cinematic look even in bright daylight.

SmallRig Magic Arm Clamp: A versatile accessory that lets me stabilize my camera on almost any surface, replacing the need for a bulky tripod.

K&F Concept Air Blower and Cleaning Stick: An essential tool for keeping my gear clean, especially when I’m changing lenses in less-than-ideal conditions.

AirPods Pro: Music is key to my creative process, I need to be in my bubble.
